Potatoes Dauphinoise
Such an exotic name for a potato dish! Potatoes Dauphinoise originate from the south of France. The poatoes are sliced very thin and baked with, well, traditionally with au gratin (combination of cheese and breadcrumbs). Eggs and cream have become a modern substitution.
INGREDIENTS:
6 medium sized potatoes
6 eggs
2 cups cream
salt and pepper
2 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic
parsley flakes
DIRECTIONS:
1. Slice the potatoes very thinly- about 1 cm thick (If you like thicker potatoes slices, go up to 3 cm)
2. Prepare a casserole dish and rub it with crushed cloves of garlic
3. In a mixing bowl, mix together the parsley, egg, cream and butter
4. Make one layer of potatoes on the very bottom of the casserole dish
5. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the layer of potatoes
6. Top the layer with an evenly spread layer of the egg, cream, butter mix
7. Repeat steps 4-6 until the casserole dish is filled
8. Bake at 360’C for 40 minutes in the oven or until the top browns
